Douglas Alfred HAINES
Douglas Alfred Haines, lovingly known as ‘Dougie’, peacefully passed away on June 2nd, 2023, in Fernie, BC, surrounded by his family. He was born in Trail, BC, on August 11, 1944. We hold him dear in our hearts and will miss him tremendously.
Doug is now reunited with his parents, Fredrick and Helen Haines, and his sister Alice (Haines) Dubois.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Elsie, and their four children: Shawn, Penny (Mark), Roselien (Rick), and Sterling (Fiona). Doug’s presence will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Riley, Savannah, Ryan, Chase, Shelby, Mandy, Milana, Jaxon, and Carter. He is also survived by his twin brother, Donald Haines (Barb), and their family.
Growing up in Fruitvale, BC, Doug formed strong bonds with his beloved family members and lifelong friends, many of whom still reside there today. Doug and Elsie tied the knot in a charming ceremony in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on June 24, 1967. They settled in Sparwood, BC, where they raised their four children. Throughout his life, Doug pursued various careers and gained a solid reputation as a skilled crane operator and successful business owner.
Doug found great joy in spending summer days in Montana with his wife, family, and many treasured friends. Doug had a great passion for the outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. His sense of humor was legendary, and he delighted everyone with his captivating storytelling. Family and friends always gathered around him, eager to hear his tales and share in the laughter he brought.
We will forever miss the laughter he created and the happiness he brought into our lives.
A small family celebration of Doug’s life will be announced at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Joel Stimson for his unwavering commitment and compassionate care for Doug and his family. They would also like to express gratitude to the Cranbrook and Fernie hospitals for their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may made to the Diabetes Canada, CNIB, or the Canadian organization for the blind and deaf blind. Dad had a heart for underprivileged or disabled kids, so donations to kids camps or children charities are also encouraged.
