Obituary of Roy Mayne
Roy Mayne
Roy Mayne passed away at Joseph Creek Care Village on July 12, 2025, in Cranbrook, B.C. His daughter, Jana, was by his side. Born in Edmonton, AB, on October 21, 1943, Roy lived a full and vibrant life marked by resilience, humour, and a deep love for family, music, and socializing.
Roy moved to Yellowknife, NWT as a teenager. He pursued his education in Drafting Technology, graduating from SAIT in 1965. It was in Hinton, Alberta, in 1968 where he met the love of his life, Audrey. The couple settled in Cranbrook, B.C. in 1970, where Roy built a long career with CFI/Tembec as a mechanical engineer.
A true social spirit, Roy’s retirement years were spent doing what he loved most—golfing, curling, attending concerts with his children, and enjoying the camaraderie of friends at local pubs. He was a proud volunteer, giving some of his time to Special Olympics and the Eagles Hall. Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humour, Roy even got a tattoo shortly before his 70th birthday.
Roy was diagnosed with dementia in 2016, a challenge he faced with characteristic strength and grace. He found joy in music until the very end—often clapping along to his favourite 1958 rock ‘n’ roll tunes at Joseph Creek. His lifelong love of vintage Chrysler 300 letter series was another passion, and he owned several over the years.
Roy was a cancer survivor of nearly 30 years, a testament to his enduring strength and resilience. Throughout his life, he drew people in with his warm personality, love of conversation, and deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. Even as dementia progressed, he continued to find comfort and connection through visits from loved ones.
Roy is survived by his children Garrett Mayne (Christine) and Jana Schulz (Tylor), and by his grandchildren Alexis Hekker (Brandon), Rylee Warner, and James and Jordan Mayne. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey Mayne (Mellersh), sister Violet Laverne Phinney, brother Ted Waugh, and parents Margaret (Savard) and James Mayne.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Brian and Trudy Clifford for their weekly visits, always arriving with ice cream and kindness, and to the dedicated staff at Joseph Creek Care Village for their compassionate care over the past few years.
Roy’s legacy of laughter, generosity, and deep appreciation for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
