Obituary for Alice Muriel Ethel NIEMAN
Alice Muriel Ethel NIEMAN
February 22, 1931 – March 8, 2018
It is with sadness that we say our final goodbye to our much loved Mother and Grandmother.
Alice was born near Roblin, MB (Shell River) 87 years ago. Her family later settled in Mafeking, MB. She spent a year in Nova Scotia where she received her Grade nine education and helped to care for her grandparents.
Alice was very proud of her job as a telephone operator in Swan River, where she made many life-long friends.
Bill came into her life and they married December 14th,1949. They shared a lifetime of memories and made their home together in Swan River until his passing in April of 1993.
Alice worked hard helping her husband with their construction business. Bookkeeping, cooking in the camps, picking berries, canning, and baking kept her very busy. She was particularly famous for her cookies, cake and delicious pies. She loved to organize parties and planned many birthday and anniversary celebrations for her friends and relatives. One of her biggest accomplishments was the publishing of the Roger’s Geneology book.
Winter was not Alice’s chosen season therefore she enjoyed the periodic escape to the warmth of Arizona, Florida and Hawaii. Watching baseball games and playing cards were two things that brought her joy. She also crocheted many afghans over the years for her family.
After Bill passed away, Alice spent time in Arizona, Calgary, AB & Fernie, BC. Her heart lead her back home to Swan River. Two years ago she moved to Rocky Mountain Lodge in Fernie to be closer to her family.
