Obituary for Evelyn Jane Watson

WATSON (CORT)EVELYN JANE

APRIL 8, 1935 – JANUARY 2, 2019

On the early afternoon of Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Evelyn Jane Watson (Cort) passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.  Evelyn’s family was privileged to be by her side when she passed.   She was born on April 8, 1935 in Melfort, Saskatchewan.  In August of 1965, she moved with her family from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Cranbrook.

In Cranbrook, Evelyn worked at Safeway, Woolworth’s, K-Mart and Inn of the South and met many of her good friends through her working years.  Mom/Nana had the biggest heart, gave the best hugs and loved her family fiercely.  She loved cooking and baking for her family and anyone else she felt needed it.  She also loved tending her flower garden in the summer and enjoyed bowling in the winter.

Evelyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Gerald Watson; daughters Tisha (Brian) Flint, Brenda (Gord) Wilken and her son Brian (Denise) Chanski as well as her seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  Evelyn leaves behind her brother Cecil (Evelyn) Cort and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Chanski (1971), father Lloyd Cort (1977) and her beloved mother, Verna Cort (1991).

At Evelyn’s request, there will be no funeral service.  There will be a family graveside service in the spring.  In memory of Evelyn, memorial donations may be made to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health – Oncology Dept., 13 – 24th Ave. S., Cranbrook, BC  V1C 3H9
