It is with great sadness that the family of Ivy Noeline Corrigan (Speirs) of Lethbridge announces her passing on May 16, 2018 at the age of 88 years. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Ivy was born in Levin, New Zealand to John and Ivy Speirs December 16, 1929. She grew up on the family farm just outside of Levin and enjoyed special times with her siblings and her favourite horse ” Salvo”. After finishing her schooling, she decided to become a registered Nurse. She had a real passion for nursing and enjoyed caring for her patients and making new friends along the way.
When she was 25 years old, she left New Zealand with a fellow nurse mate and ventured to Europe to work and travel the continent. She then ventured on to Canada before she was to head home to New Zealand. Well life had a different plan for her and she met her husband
William Corrigan while working in Fernie B.C. They married October 1, 1960 and were blessed with two children, John and Isobel, then settled in Fernie.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending family holidays in Lethbridge, playing tennis and being part of the Fernie Girl Guides as District Commisioner. She took great pride in this position and followed their motto ” Be Prepared” throughout her life.
After she retired in Lethbridge, she enjoyed taking many road trips around B.C. and Alberta. She especially like to see the old prairie grain elevators and learn the history behind them. Ivy was the second youngest of six siblings. She was predeceased by her parents John and
Ivy Speirs; her brothers John Mckenzie, Roy (Brenda) Speirs, Gordon Speirs, Malcolm Speirs; her sister Audrey (Boxer) McEwan; brothers in law John Gibson and Owen Murray; as well as life long friend William Corrigan. She will be sadly missed by her son John (Barb) Corrigan, daughter Isobel Oelke; grandchildren Jeff, Brad (Sarai) and Jennifer (Quinten)Corrigan, Rebecca and Ty Oelke. She will also be missed by her sister Elsie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
