Kenneth Richard Steidl

August 4, 1942 – July 12, 2018

It is with flowing tears and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ken Steidl.

Ken was born to Ellen “Nelly” and Gladwin Steidl in Regina, Saskatchewan. He grew up alongside his two brothers and future wife Muriel in Wilcox. Ken went on to Regina College then obtained his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in 1970 and moved to Cranbrook to start his law practice. He was appointed to Queen’s Counsel in 2002. Ken enjoyed many activities including hockey, golf, fishing, baseball, and curling. He coached minor hockey, was a director for the Friends of Fort Steele Society and the Cranbrook Curling Club, and was involved in a number of boards and organizations in the community.

Ken touched the lives of many with his zest for life and compassionate, caring and understanding nature. In addition to being an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ken was the life of the party. His jokes were legendary and brought endless laughter to all who knew him.

Ken is survived by his life-long love Muriel, children John (Julie), Greg (Ameira), Darren (Michelle) and Shawna, grandchildren Jayden, Araela, Brenden, Kyia, Emma, Qirin and Chase, twin brother Don (Marge), and in-laws Gloria, Jack (Helen) and Sandra (Bernie). Ken was predeceased by his parents Gladwin and Nelly, his brother-in-law Maurice, and his older brother Gordon.

A celebration of life will be held for Ken at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Columbo Lodge, 2550 8th Avenue South. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken’s memory to BREATHE Lung Association or the East Kootenay SPCA.
