Obituary for Hazeldeane RUSSELL

Hazeldeane RUSSELL

December 14, 1925 – April 19, 2017

With deep sadness, the family of Hazeldeane Russell said farewell to their cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Hazeldeane’s genuine and tender nature shone through her smile. Her family and friends remember her for her innate wisdom and grace. She demonstrated strength as she accepted life’s challenges without complaint, adapting to new situations and making the best of each.

Hazeldeane cherished visits with family and special friends. She was most proud of and very supportive of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spoke glowingly of their activities and achievements.

Hazeldeane’s mother passed away several days after giving birth. From 3 days of age Hazeldeane was raised by her father and extended family in the Kaslo and New Denver, BC area until her father remarried when she was 10 yrs old.

She worked as a Nurses Aid in the New Denver Hospital as a young adult, followed by a brief time as a telephone operator in Vancouver. She returned to New Denver where her marriage and the birth of 3 children occupied her time. Following a move to Lillooet, BC in 1955, the family was completed with the birth of 3 more children. New adventures there included the development of the family farm which involved chasing bears out of the yard and getting rid of the well-established packrat from its cozy nest in the 2 room log cabin. Friends and family recall the variety of farm produce that flowed onto the table, and the garden bounty that was prepared and tucked away to enjoy through the winter months.

A move to Golden, BC in 1967 saw her children mature and eventually leave the family home to develop their lives and careers. As the children approached their young adult years, Hazeldeane returned to college and gained certification as a Home Care Aid. She administered to many residents of Golden prior to retiring to enjoy gardening and to travel for visits with family and friends. She moved to Fernie, BC with family during her elder years.

She is predeceased by her parents, son Edwin James, and granddaughter Gloria Frances. Grieving her loss are her children: Frances (Dave), Linda (Joe), Earl (Beth), Carol (Rick), and Donna (Ray). Also grieving and remembering her are 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life to occur in Golden, BC July 22, 2017 followed by interment of ashes in the family grave at Kaslo BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at Lilac Terrace Retirement Home, PO Box 1587, 102 2nd Ave., Sparwood, BC V0B 2G1.
