1930 – 2018

On Sunday, January 14, 2018, Margaret Mabel Christensen passed away in Castlegar, BC at the age of 87 years. Our mother was born in Cranbrook on July 18, 1930 to William and Mabel John and a sister to Jack Gilbert John.  She attended schools in Cranbrook and was a stenographer for the Unemployment Insurance office in Cranbrook for several years.

In 1953, she married Ivan Christensen and moved to Kimberley. A son, Ivan was born and later was joined by a sister, Linda.

Music played a great part in her life and she had great joy at playing the piano.   She played the piano by ear since she was a very little girl.  She took part in many music events.  Mother formed a small singing group called Marg and the Mustard Cutters – the slogan being “we sing with relish”.  Her chief aim was to entertain other seniors.  Margaret was a member of the Kimberley United Church Choir for many years.

In July of 2011, Margaret moved to the Garden View Village in Kimberley. In February of 2017 she moved to Castlegar to be closer to her daughter Linda.

Left to mourn her passing are her children; Ivan (Margaret) Christensen and Linda (Don) Frew as well as her grandchildren; Erik and Erin Christensen, Christopher and Lindsey Frew and two great grandchldren Annika and Henrik. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivan Sr. on October 1, 1991, her father, William in July of 1951, her mother in July 1977 and her brother Jack in 1974.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life for Margaret will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Kimberley United Church at 11:00 am. A private family interment will follow in Cranbrook.

If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
