Obituary of Bill Horkoff
Bill Horkoff
Billy was a Loving, Forgiving and Generous to a fault person, always accepting friendship and helping others in any way possible. He often provided food for families and friends in need, he loved to share his yearly hunting bounty with everyone and he loved even more to prepare a meal for friends and family. He was an AA member from 1987, a Hospice provider for many years visiting many people who enjoyed his company and caring compassion. Billy supported and contributed to many worthy causes over the years and helped many people financially in need often without repayment. Billy was straight forward and nonjudgmental, accepting of everyone. Accept me as I am he would profess as I accept you as you are, a man with a most beautiful and loving heart.
Billy was born and raised in Grand Forks, BC, to Peter and Frances Horkoff. He graduated and then completed his Automotive Mechanics apprenticeship, thereafter going to work in the mining industry in the Kootenay area until his retirement. Billy lived in Invermere, He loved hunting and fishing with a passion and was a master at each and he loved living in the area with all the opportunity to enjoy his passion and all the amazing people he met and befriended, from checkout clerks to teachers to doctors and nurses to coworkers and fellow sportspersons. The past few years have been a health challenge for Billy where he fought back to overcome insurmountable challenges with the medical profession believing he wasn’t going to survive four times but he did make it back each time. When he was told afterwards that they didn’t believe he was going to survive he always responded “But you didn’t ask me” with his beautiful smile. His last challenge was impossible to survive and while holding his hand Billy passed on.
Billy was predeceased by his father Pete, mother Frances, sister Tracy, brother Allan, grandparents, uncles and aunts. Billy is survived by numerous cousins, an aunt and uncle in Radium, his Nieces Shelly Horkoff of Kelowna and Jackie Horkoff of Port Coquitlam, Grand Nephew Drae Ryan and Grand Niece Abi Ryan of Kelowna, his brother Peter (Cecile) of Grand Forks and Stepdaughter Jolene in Lethbridge.
There is no service by Billy’s request, instead he asked that if you can find it in your heart to help out people and families in need, support the Hospice Society, donate to the food bank and always be kind.
A special thank you to Ernie and Darcy, Ron and Marla from Billy for their caring friendship.
