Obituary of Bridie SAUNDERS

Bridie SAUNDERS

August 17, 1940 ~ February 7, 2025 (age 84)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Bridget “Bridie” Saunders, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Bridie passed away peacefully in Fernie, B.C., on February 7, 2025. She was born on August 17, 1940, in Glasgow, Scotland.

Bridie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dennis Saunders (December 13, 2024), and their sons, Ian Saunders (2016) and Lee Saunders (1998). She was also preceded in death by her parents, Danny and Ella Moan, and her sisters, Ella Hardy and Kathleen Hanley.

She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Holly, Connor, and Parker Saunders; her great-granddaughter, Josie; her daughter-in-law, Darla; her brothers, Danny and Martin Moan; and many extended family members and dear friends across Canada, England, and the United States.

Bridie’s early years were spent in Hebburn, England, where her family moved when she was a toddler. There, she attended school and later worked as a school receptionist. It was in Hebburn that she met the love of her life, Dennis. They married in 1962, and when they started a family, Bridie devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising their sons with love and care.

After a brief time in the United States, the family returned to England before immigrating to Canada in 1974, eventually settling in Fernie, where they embraced life in the Canadian Rockies.

Bridie had a deep faith and a special tenderness for children, seniors, and animals. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother—her family was her greatest joy, and her home was always a warm and welcoming place. She will be remembered for her kindness, hospitality, unwavering devotion to her loved ones, and her quick wit (often accompanied by a cheeky wink).

We will forever miss her gentle heart, wisdom, and laughter.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Case, the Fernie Ambulance Dept., and the staff at the Rocky Mountain Care Village for their compassionate care in Bridie’s final years.
