Obituary of Daphne Hayden
Daphne Hayden
Our mother Daphne Hayden passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026 at the age of 93.
Daphne was born on November 13,1932 in New Westminster. From the very beginning she carried a quiet strength and confidence that shaped the way she lived her life. After she received her teaching certificate in 1951 she moved to Invermere where she met Bill Hayden, and they were married in 1953. Together they raised six children, first in Invermere then in Cranbrook where they settled in 1958.
Daphne continued teaching for many years until retirement in 1988. This new chapter brought her travelling the globe, and volunteering for several local organizations. One of her many accomplishments was being awarded woman of the year in 2000 and longest living retired teacher of Cranbrook school district 5 last Christmas.
Many of our treasured memories were made at the family cabin at Moyie Lake, where summers were filled with good books, good food, and good friends. A place she truly loved.
Daphne is survived by 5 children, Carol (Don), Thomas (Keyla), Bruce (Andrea), Diane, Patricia(Joe) Son in law, Alan. 12 Grandchildren Nichole(Chris), Stephanie (Richard) Laura (Gregor), Katie (Atraio), Ethan (Celia), Ryan, Jordan, Cristopher (Lauren), Ross (Karleigh) Connor, Mark and Jennifer. 8 Great Grandchildren who referred to her as “G.G.” and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.
She is predeceased by her husband William (Bill) and daughter Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Daphne with a donation to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Daphne’s Life will take place Saturday August 1, 2026 at 1pm at the Royal Alexandra Hall in Cranbrook.
