Obituary of Eleanor Hill

Eleanor Hill

October 29, 1938  –  September 13, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Eleanor Hill, who left us peacefully on September 13, 2025, at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, at the age of 86.

Eleanor was born in Wainwright, Alberta, to Christian and Aletta Borch. She spent her childhood years on the family farm, helping with crops and stone boats, before setting out on new adventures in Toronto. In 1971, she moved to Cranbrook, where she would meet the love of her life, Darryl Hill. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, family, and 40 wonderful years of adventures side by side.

Throughout her working years, Eleanor shared her kindness and dedication with many local businesses, including CIBC, TD Bank, and Steller Vista Credit Union (formerly Cranbrook Savings Credit Union & East Kootenay Community Credit Union).

Eleanor’s love for travel took her and Darryl across the world—throughout Europe, China, Hawaii, across Canada, and beyond. Whether skiing through Banff, hiking the East Kootenays, or curling with friends, she embraced every adventure with enthusiasm. She had a passion for sports, especially cheering on her beloved Edmonton Eskimos and Oilers. And with her sparkling luck at the casinos, Eleanor often came home a winner—though Darryl would joke he could never quite keep up with her good fortune.

At home, Eleanor’s warmth touched everyone she met. She supported her children and grandchildren without judgment, offering wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love. Her contagious laughter, memorable sneezes, and the countless memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.

Her son Tyler wishes to especially acknowledge the dedication, warmth, and love his mom showed him during his own long stay in hospital as a child. Later, when his son Seth required care at Toronto SickKids, Eleanor’s strength, compassion, and unwavering support guided them both through those difficult times. That devotion will never be forgotten.

Eleanor also had a lifelong love of animals. Over four decades, she and Darryl cared for their beloved dogs—Tiger, Alphie, Taffy, Lassie, Lindey, Monty, Tao, Yoshi, and Tazzie—as well as their cat, Fluffily. We find comfort in imagining them joyfully welcoming her home, tails wagging and hearts full.

Eleanor’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Darryl, her loving children and stepchildren, and their families:

• Son Mark Broadstock & wife Lan (grandchildren William, Ben, Frankie)

• Son Tyler Broadstock & wife Share (grandchildren Seth, Karly, Brandon, Cody, Aaron & Chase; great-grandchildren Dawson & Connor)

• Daughter Carrie Broadstock

• Daughter Cindy Sauve & husband Allan (grandson Dustin & wife Alexandra; great-grandchildren Jeffrey David & Magnolia)

• Daughter Debbie Juhasz & husband Rob (grandchildren Colton & wife Gabrielle, Riley, Sawyer; great-grandchild Rowan)

• Son Kevin Hill & wife Faye (grandchildren Logan, Emily, Mason & Rhianna)

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to All the East Kootenay Regional Hospital Staff, who assisted her, especially Dr. Andy Scheibenstock and nurses Amanda Kerr and Jas Khaira whose compassion and care brought comfort during Eleanor’s final days.

A private celebration of Eleanor’s extraordinary life will be held in the spring of 2026, where her family and friends will gather to honor the joy, love, and memories she gave so freely.

Eleanor will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain with us always—guiding, loving, and inspiring, just as she did throughout her life.
