Fred Burrin

Fred passed away peacefully at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital March 2, 2026, with his family by his side.

Fred will be deeply missed by his wife Margaret Ann (nee Scott), daughter Charlene Welsh & Glen, (Dane), daughter Holly Thygesen & Tim, (Ryan & Tierra), (Taylor, Reid & Brylee), grandsons Bryant & Heather (Zealand & Dane), Fred & Laura, (Briar) & granddaughter Destiny.

Fred was predeceased by his parents Fred & Violet, sister Pat Oakland & brother-in-law Ernie, brother Peter & son Fred.

Fred was born and raised in Kimberley where he and Marg dated in high school and married in September of 1956. The newlyweds moved to Vancouver where they lived for 4 years while he completed his electrical apprenticeship before returning to Kimberley.

Fred worked for Cominco, Industrial electrical construction and finally the Skookumchuck Pulp mill where he retired from the electrical shop in 1998.

Fred was an avid musician – starting on the violin at 6 years old before mastering the saxophone and learning many other instruments over the years. Fred had an incredible ear for music with a unique ability to listen to a song, play it and remember it forever. He was in many bands including the Swing Kings & the Kimberley Community Band. Fred spent untold hours providing musical entertainment for Seniors at the FW Green Memorial Home and Kimberley Pines over many years.

Fred’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors & nurses that took care of him in his final days.

There will be a private celebration of Fred’s life for family at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the Wasa Lions Club or BC SPCA.
