Obituary of Gordon Leonard Donald

Gordon Leonard Donald

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon Donald, age 86, on July 2, 2025 in Cranbrook.

Gordon was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan, the fifth of six children to Samuel and Caroline Donald. He started his working career painting grain elevators and installing power lines. In 1961 Gordon moved to Cranbrook where he hired on with Canadian Pacific Railway as a Trainman and then Conductor for 33 years. Gordon enjoyed Bowling, Golf, Billiards, and Curling. His Curling team achieved a perfect “eight-ender” during one of the many bonspiels.

Gordon was a selfless and gentle soul. He loved his family and always cared for others. He had a subtle quick humour and a spark of joy that brought light to those in need of a smile. He remained a Saskatchewan boy at heart and always had fond memories of his family there.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jeannette; his sons Chad Donald (grandchildren Nathan and Taryn) and Dan Marusyk; stepson Kevin Thingvold (grandchildren Ginny, Anika and Estelle); grandsons Jordan and Branden Metters; brother Garry (Elaine) Donald. He was predeceased by his step-daughter Vicki Metters, siblings Ernie, Margory, Marvin and Malcolm.

The family wishes to express many thanks to the staff and caregivers at Joseph Creek Village.

A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at a future date.
