Obituary of Grant Lloyd Warkentin
Grant Lloyd Warkentin
Born in Kelowna, BC and growing up in Burnaby, Grant moved to Fernie with his parents, Ben and Joy, in the 1980’s. After raising his two daughters, Shannon and Stephanie, he settled in Cranbrook and married Nancy in 2016.
Grant grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was a hardworking man, a talented craftsman and a skilled handyman who could build and fix just about anything. Whether he was creating something new or repairing what others thought couldn’t be saved his creativity and practical wisdom was apparent. He enjoyed a career at Tech in the early years and then as an independent construction contractor before retiring from the maintenance department of the Fernie District Hospital.
Grant’s love for nature shaped much of his life. He found joy in hunting, fishing, hiking and camping, often sharing these passions with his family and anyone eager to join him. Grant lived a full beautiful life, and especially enjoyed music, cooking, and golfing with the boys. He had a heart for adventure, and a spirit of generosity which led him on mission trips and travel that reflected his faith and care for others.
He cherished his role as father to his two daughters, Shannon and Stephanie, and took great joy in raising them. Family was the centre of everything Grant did. He shared his life with his loving wife Nancy, and deeply valued time with his brother Glenn, his parents Ben and Joy and his many friends.
Grant was known for his kind heart, playful spirit and deep love for those around him. He was always up for an adventure especially if it involved building something fun or showing kids how to enjoy the outdoors. His presence was warm; he was quick to laugh and his life a true example of love in action.
Grant will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy; mother, Joy; daughters, Shannon (Adam), Stephanie (Caleb); brother, Glenn (Jeanie); grandchildren, Claire and Connor; nephew, Ross; niece, Ellise; grand nephews, Hunter and Colton; uncles Les and Lenard; and many other friends and family.
Grant is predeceased by his father, Ben, whom he now joins in heaven.
We’d like to offer special thanks to the oncology team at East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their compassion and excellence in care.
