Obituary of Helen Habart

Helen “Diane” Habart

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of (Helen) Diane Habart, who left this world peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 72. She was surrounded by family in the comfort of her home, with her beloved Maine Coon companions, Lucas and Roman, close by. Diane’s passing leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who knew her.

Diane was born in Invermere, British Columbia, and raised in Radium, where she would later meet the love of her life, Steve, her husband of 33 years. Together they built a life rooted in love, adventure, hard work, and laughter on the property where Steve grew up—a place Diane made warm and welcoming to all. Many who entered her life came to call her Mom or Grandma, titles she carried with pride and grace.

Diane spent many years working in the mining industry, but her favourite roles were always those closest to her heart: wife and mother. She had a deep love for the outdoors and once dreamed of becoming a forest ranger. That passion showed in the many years she spent working outside, where she found peace, strength, and a deep connection to the land.

She was generous, kind, loving, and welcoming—someone who loved fiercely and lived with purpose. When asked what superpower she would choose, Diane always answered the power to heal people. It was the truest reflection of her spirit: a steady source of comfort, protection, and calm for everyone around her. With Steve, she created a home filled with laughter, acceptance, safety, and countless cherished memories—a place where people felt seen, valued, and unconditionally loved.

Diane was a talented crocheter, creating everything from intricate tablecloths to blankets treasured by family and friends. In 1984, she proudly sold a large crocheted tablecloth for $190. In later years, her crocheted pot scrubbies became beloved staples among all who received them—small, practical gifts infused with care and love. She also loved to write, filling journals and books with reflections on her life, sometimes starting from the back, upside down, or wherever inspiration struck—just one more way her creativity and spirit shone.

She loved to laugh and found joy in the simple things. Diane adored angels, dragons, and all flowers especially tulips and roses. She formed deep and lasting bonds throughout her life and lived happily, simply, and fully, rich in love, kindness, humour, and quiet strength.

Diane is lovingly remembered by her daughters Tanice (Roy), parents to Laurissa, and Leanna (Clayton), parents to Mason and Lonnie. She was adored by her son-in-laws, Roy and Clayton—whom she affectionately called “my boy.” In her final two months, Diane’s daughters and son-in-laws shared space, meals, memories, laughter, and cherished stories, a time filled with love and togetherness.

She is also remembered by her siblings, Edith (Todd), Stan (Shirley), Ken (Terri), Sharon (Rob), many nieces, nephews and extended family. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Abe and Helen; her husband, Steve; and her firstborn, Cody Everett, whom she held forever in her heart.

Above all, Diane’s greatest love was for her children. She was their fiercest protector, their loudest supporter, and their safest place. She would challenge anyone who caused them harm—never backing down, standing tall with unwavering courage and words that carried truth and power. To her family, she was perfect: deeply loved, endlessly kind, fiercely loyal, and unforgettable. Her gentle spirit, bold heart, and unbreakable love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
