Obituary of Ilha STRACHAN
Ilha STRACHAN
Ilha Winnifred Strachan passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Fernie, BC. She was born October 13, 1936, in The Pas, Manitoba to parents Royden and Millie Farrow.
Ilha was predeceased by her husband Clare Strachan in 2002, and her parents Roy and Millie Farrow. She is survived by her children Tracy (Paul) Guzzi and Diane (Dennis) Della Siega; grandchildren Christopher, Ryan, Danielle, and Lucas; her beloved great grandchildren Giovanna, Audrey, Coden, Rylee, and Remi, and her sister Ardin Howard. Ilha will also be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Ilha was a schoolteacher for many years. Her career began at the age of nineteen; her first teaching job was in a small farming community in a one-room schoolhouse in Saskatchewan.
In January 1970, Clare, Ilha, Tracy and Diane moved to Fernie where Ilha taught until her retirement. In Fernie they enjoyed the outdoors, working in the yard, camping, boating, and fishing. Ilha loved fishing and cruising in the boat although she was very afraid of water, but trusting in her life jacket, she enjoyed every moment.
Ilha began travelling after she retired and has so many wonderful memories of trips enjoyed with friends and her daughters; many laughs and adventures were shared.
Ilha’s most favorite memories and greatest pleasure in life were times shared with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who called her “GG,” and soon everyone began to call her GG. She cherished every moment with her family.
Ilha’s family would like to thank Dr. Shelley Forrest for the care and kindness she always gave Ilha. We would also like to thank the amazing nursing staff at the Elk Valley Hospital for the wonderful care given to Ilha; we are truly grateful.
MISS ME – BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love we once shared
Miss me – but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone,
It’s part of the Master’s plan –
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds.
Miss me – but let me go.
