Obituary of Joseph John Pendry

Joseph John Pendry

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and uncle, after fighting the ultimate fight with remarkable courage and strength. Joseph John Pendry passed away with family by his side at Kelowna General Hospital on October 25, 2025.

Joe was born on September 20, 1962, in Kimberley, BC, where he spent his first twenty years surrounded by family, friends, and the beauty of the Kootenays. After moving to Cranbrook, he began his long and dedicated career with East Kootenay Highways, now known as Main Roads. Joe took great pride in his work and was well respected by his colleagues for his strong work ethic and commitment to keeping the roads safe for his community.

In his younger years, Joe was a passionate athlete and a multi Golden Gloves boxing champion, a testament to his strength, discipline, and determination—qualities he carried throughout his life. Outside of work, he was known for his love of the outdoors—whether it was hunting or simply spending time in nature, he felt most at peace under open skies. He also had a keen interest in coin collecting, a hobby that reflected his patience and appreciation for history and detail.

Joe and his high school sweetheart, Janice, rekindled their love in 2008 and were joyfully married in 2011. Their story was one of true connection—two hearts finding their way back to one another. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, shared adventures, and quiet moments side by side. Whether traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with their beloved dogs, Ryley and Lily, they cherished each other’s company and found joy in simply being together. Their bond was rooted in deep affection, respect, and unwavering devotion.

Joe was also a devoted Dad and Papa, whose family meant everything to him. He took great pride in his three children and treasured the special bond he shared with each of his grandchildren. Whether it was cheering them on, sharing stories, or offering gentle guidance, Joe’s love was constant and unconditional. His grandchildren brought him endless joy, and he found so much happiness in watching them grow. His warmth, humor, and steady presence made him the heart of every family gathering—memories that will be cherished forever.

His adventurous spirit, sense of humour, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Joe will be remembered not only for his hard work but also for his big heart and the countless memories he created with those he loved most.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Lillian Pendry, and his brother-in-law Jack Douglass.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Janice; his children Janessa (Cody) and grandchildren Liam, Mhairi, and Cormac; Tiffany (Tim) and grandchildren Rosabella and Levi; Rylan (Lacey) and grandchildren Emma and Rhett; stepchildren Michael (Leandra) and grandchildren Rowan and Emery; Byron (Brendan); Kaitlyn and grandchild Aria; and Kayla (Trent). He is also survived by his siblings Jeannette, Ed “Butch” (Colleen), and Hans (Janna), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish his memory.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated medical staff at Kelowna General Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion Joe received. Your kindness and expertise brought comfort during the most difficult time, and we are greatly thankful.

A Memorial Service will be held at McPherson Funeral Home on November 9th at 11:00am for family and close friends. A live stream service will also be available and can be viewed at: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/joe-pendry-memorial-service

Joe found peace and purpose in the great outdoors, where the mountains met the sky and quiet moments spoke louder than words. As we continue to walk the trails, watch the sunrise, or breathe in the crisp Kootenay air, we will think of him—and know that a part of Joe will always be out there with us.
