Obituary of Linda Lou Plourd

Linda Lou Plourd (MacDonald)

A long-time devoted Cranbrook resident, Linda is remembered by her large extended family. She was born to Dave and Ruth MacDonald on December 27, 1946, in Port Alberni, BC. She moved to the Cranbrook area when she was young and lived here most of her life. She was very close with her beloved sister, Melody Vanderwalt and family (Cranbrook) and Michael (Mickey) Macdonald and family (Kimberly).

She will be greatly missed by the love of her life, husband William (Bill) Plourd, kids, Jacqueline Gold, Nora Spring, Philip Spring, Aaron Spring, Troy Plourd, and their families, all her nieces, nephews, grandkids, brothers and sisters-in-law. Although not technically related, there were those that Linda considered close family, they were very important to her and she to them.

Bill and Linda started Mountain Eagle Security in Cranbrook, and when they retired, they both loved travelling/hiking, gardening and doting over their pampered pets. Over the years, they filled their home with love and laughter from their many cats, dogs and international students they hosted in their home. Students from China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Jamaica often kept in touch and visited years after they had returned to their country. Linda and Bill wanted them all to have a unique Canadian experience, and Linda was known for teaching many of them how to drive.

Linda volunteered for Sam Steele Days and organized Sunday in the Park. She donated regularly to the SPCA , however, one of Linda’s greatest passions was reading. She visited the Cranbrook Library weekly since the age of 6 and is well known to all the staff there. At one point in the 1990’s, the staff searched and discovered that Linda was the top borrower of all time, and since 1998 – 2026, she had checked out 8,407 books locally and likely hundreds more through inter-library loans. To give back for the great service and joy she received from the Library, Linda began donating each month to add 40 more titles and is considered and listed as a ‘Friend of the Library’ in Mike Selby’s new book Who we are 100 years of History Cranbrook Public Library. We will all miss her cheery disposition, support and love. She was a big personality, packed into a little 4ft 11-inch frame and, we all loved her dearly.

Her request (in lieu of flowers) is to do a good deed and simply spread kindness. She called herself a little bit of a Buddhist and loved every living thing, and that is the legacy she leaves those who knew and loved her.

At Linda’s request there will be no service.
