Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth “Timmy” Hetherington

Margaret Elizabeth “Timmy” Hetherington (Nee Hewitt)

It is with profound sadness the family of Timmy announces her passing at East Kootenay Regional Hospital on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at the age of 88.

Mom was born June 19th, 1936, in Hamilton, ONT to Joseph and Margaret Hewitt. Her father was serving in the RCAF, and her childhood was filled with happy memories and many adventures. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, George Hetherington, while her father was stationed in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Nursing was her calling, and she spent a total of 45 years nursing, dedicated first at KGH Kingston as a Head Nurse of ORS, later as a nurse in Health Care at Joyceville Institution.

Mom was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She lived her life with compassion, integrity and love. She was passionate about nursing, pets, family and friends, and her houseplants.

Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, George Hetherington, parents Joseph and Margaret Hewitt, and her sister Barbara.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved daughter Margie Whan (Andrew), grandson Josh. Also survived by her loving son David (Darlene) and several grandchildren.

Mom was a proud member of Branch #24 of the Royal Canadian Legion, with many friends over the years who were like her second family.

Interment to take place at Westlawn Cemetery Thursday, June 26th at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24, 803 Cranbrook Street N, Cranbrook, British Columbia.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Mom’s memory can be made to Branch #24, Royal Canadian Legion.
