Obituary of Margaret Emiline Gwaltney
Margaret Emiline Gwaltney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Margaret Emiline Gwaltney (Larson) on
May 23, 2025 in Cranbrook, B.C. at the age of 87.
Margaret was born in Vawn, Saskatchewan to Roger and Mildred Larson, being the third of seven children. The Larson family moved to Fruitvale, B.C. where their children were raised.
Margaret was blessed with five children and an additional three step-children.
Margaret leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Larry Gwaltney. Also left to mourn her passing are her children Stewart (Debbie) Foisy, Sherry (Dale) Gairdner, Gordon (Tina) Foisy, Gail (Steve) Goyer, Brian Foisy, Eileen (Glen) Horel, Ben Gwaltney and Shauna Gwaltney.
Margaret also leaves behind many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren with which she held a special bond with each and everyone of them. They will miss her dearly!
Other loving family includes her brother Jim (Gail), sister-in-laws Eleanor and Teresa, in laws Ben (Dianne), Marilda (Bernell), Luanne (Blaine) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Mildred, her siblings, Ron, Pat (Ross), Carol (Orval), Garry, Denny and granddaughter Kristen.
Margaret worked at Overwaitea in their meat department part-time. She then went on to a full time job at Craig’s grocery store in Marysville as a cashier for many years.
Margaret and Larry lived in their home in Marysville. She was passionate about her flowers and garden and enjoyed digging in the dirt!
Margaret and Larry were inseparable. They enjoyed camping, fishing and setting up their annual hunting camp in the fall.
Family was always a huge part of their lives. Annual Christmas Eve dinners, family gatherings and the more family reunions the better! Margaret was passionate about music and the family gatherings would include all the guitars and harmonicas coming out with campfire sing songs with her lending her voice enthusiastically. Her other interests include knitting, baking, cards, dice which all would bring out her competitive side. She would always be quick to share that she “won again”. Margaret could throw a mean horseshoe and was very proud of that!
In the last couple of years Margaret shared her love of singing to her support workers, caregivers, doctors, nurses etc. She said it would brighten their day and hers too!
Margaret had a unique and special connection with children and babies. She took every opportunity to interact with them any chance she got. When you had her out and about and left her alone she would instantly have made a new friend. That was who she was, always loving and kind.
In memory of Margaret do something nice for someone or plant a flower in your garden. She would really like that. If you would like you could make a donation in memory to a charity of your choice.
We are very grateful for the care she received from so many wonderful people. Thank you to Doctor Shaun Van Zyl, Home support, Paramedics and all the Caregivers that played a part in Margaret’s care.
A Celebration of her life will take place July 12, 2025 at 248-305th Street, Marysville.
Time 1:00-3:00
A quote that Margaret loved “Family is a circle of strength and love”.
Our hearts are broken. We will all treasure our special memories of a life well lived.
