Obituary of Neil Hickman
Born on May 13, 1945, at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton AB. Neil was adopted and raised by Raymond and Evelyn Hickman.
A big kid at heart, Neil always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends around a campfire with a whiskey and having a good laugh.
Summers at the lake, he was known for his daily staff meetings every day on the beach with the Elkford crew and was always curious as to who was going to take the minutes!
Water fights with the great grand kids, fishing on the boat with Lorraine and his kids, as well as making his Italian potatoes were highlights of summer spent at the lake.
In younger years, Neil enjoyed curling, skidooing, and hunting. In retirement you could find him enjoying Kootenay Ice games when he and Lorraine relocated to Cranbrook.
Loving hockey, he would always place his bets on the Calgary Flames, losing a lot more toonies than he was ever gaining.
Neil was an exceptional firefighter and became the fire chief in Elkford in 1983, where he remained dedicated to service until his retirement in 2005. His fire department became a part of his extended family, and many laughs were had on Wednesday night socials after fire practice.
Neil leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 61 years Lorraine, his sons Darryl (Donna), Dwayne (Sherry), Jerry (LeeAnne) and his daughter Tina, as well as his grandchildren – Levi (Holly), Shannon (Ian), Tyson (Liz) and Jessica (Tavis).
Neil will also be mourned by his four great grandchildren – Stella, Harrison, Ozzie and Tavis.
He was Predeceased by his parents Raymond and Evelyn Hickman, father and mother-in-law Ralph and Inez, brother Raymond, sisters in law: Grace and Betty, and brother-in-law Larry.
The family would like to thank the Drs and nurses at the Cranbrook Regional hospital for their care and compassion shown to Neil and Lorraine during this difficult time.
