Obituary of Nick GIULIANO

Nick GIULIANO

March 4, 1939 ~ February 12, 2025 (age 85)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nicola (Nick) Giuliano, age 85, who passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary, and is now reunited with her in eternal rest.

Born in Avellino, Italy, Nick immigrated to Canada in 1959, following his sister to Fernie, BC. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Mary. Nick started working at the sawmill in 1960 and worked there for 21 years.  In 1982 he started at Line Creek mine, where he retired in 2004. His retirement party remains the most well-attended in the company’s history, a testament to the deep respect and admiration he earned from his colleagues.

Nick took great pride tending to his garden and in building the home where he and Mary lived for over 50 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, often taking road trips with the family to explore new places. A lover of both fiction and history, Nick was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He also enjoyed playing darts, a pastime that brought him both relaxation and fun.

Always curious, Nick had a keen interest in how things were made. He loved discussing the details of how things were built, how long it took, and how much they cost, sharing his insights with anyone who would listen. This curiosity and attention to detail was just another part of his vibrant personality that endeared him to everyone around him.

In his retirement, Nick found great joy volunteering at the local museum, where he met fascinating people and received numerous cherished gifts from returning visitors. He also dedicated much of his time supporting his wife, who served as the Mayor of Fernie. Together, they made a lasting impact on their community.

Nick is survived by his sister Rita, brother-in-law Tony, numerous family in England, his daughters Giuliana (Paulo Sr. and Paulo Jr.), Pina (Stacey, Zack and his wife Sam, Olivia), his sons Nick (Brandon and his partner Amber and Hunter), and Peter (Judi), his in-laws Joe and Lynn, Rita, Rose and Larry and their families who will deeply miss his guidance, wisdom, and joyful presence. Above all, Nick valued family, and his legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Rest in peace Dad. Your love, laughter, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of your family and friends.
