Obituary of Pearl Myrtle Brougham
PEARL MYRTLE BROUGHAM (COWEN)
APRIL 30, 1933 – JANUARY 12, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce mom passed away at the age of 88 in hospital Invermere January 12, 2022.
Born in Drumheller, AB, mom moved with her family Homer and Pearl Cowen and brothers Jim and Jerry to Yahk, BC in 1943.
She lived, worked and raised her family in many communities in the U.S. and Canada and ended her working career at Fording Coal in Elkford operating the “world’s largest truck” – quite a feat for a woman of her time and stature.
She and her husband Bob lived in Elkford and spent many hours fixing the “old museum” property in Yahk, where they eventually retired to live full-time until moving to Cranbrook in 2008. During retirement they remained active camping, fishing, coffee at the local Dairy Queen, participating in seniors’ activities and spending time with family and friends. Of course there was never the lack of a fur-baby in their home, the most recent being LittleBear who was near and dear to mom’s heart and who is thriving in Calgary
We are thankful to all the Interior Health Home Care staff. With their assistance, mom was able to remain in her home, as was her desire until she went into long-term care in October. Thank you to the carring staff at Swan Valley Lodge and Ivy House.
Mom is predeceased by her parents and brothers and her loving husband Bob of 46 years, her sons Roy, Terry and Bruce Eddy.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Adams (Jack) of Ottawa, daughter Lynn Fyhn, Greg Eddy (Val), John Eddy (June) all of Calgary, daughters-in-law Barb and Cindy, a dozen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren as well as Bob’s children Nancy and Raymond.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer as pandemic restrictions allow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cranbrook SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
