Obituary of Richard ‘Neil’ THOMPSON
Richard ‘Neil’ THOMPSON
Richard Neil Thompson was a caring husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He left this world peacefully on December 27, 2023, at the age of 69 surrounded by family. Neil left behind a legacy of love, laughter and a passion for life that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on December 24, 1954, in Nanaimo British Columbia, Neil moved with his family to Fernie when he was 12 years old. Neil was a dedicated family man; he married his wife Lea in 1993 and lived in Hosmer with their five children. Neil was always there for anyone who needed a hand. He dedicated 45 years of his life to the Hosmer Fire Department, where he exemplified bravery and service. He was also an active member of the Fernie Lions and the Hosmer Rec society.
A man of many talents and interests, he was a true outdoorsman who found solace by the water’s edge, casting his line into the rivers and lakes he cherished. His infectious sense of humour was a hallmark of Neil’s personality, he had an uncanny ability to turn everyday situations into opportunities for laughter.
Neil is survived by his loving wife Lea Thompson; children, Sharon (Terry), Josiah, Elijah, Jake and Jodi; grandchildren, Jade, Brandon and Asher; sisters, Cindy (Larry), Glenda (Roman) and Mariann and a host of extended family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
May Neil rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he gave so generously and the laughter that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
