Obituary of Robert Alexander Woodward

Robert Alexander Woodward “Woody”

Robert Alexander Woodward, lovingly known as Woody, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Woody was born on August 31, 1940, in Rossland, British Columbia. He lived a life devoted to his family, especially his late wife, Doloris “Del” Woodward, with whom he shared a deep and lasting love.

He is survived by his children: Rob, Derrick (Tara), Mark, Dawn (Trevor), and his cherished granddaughters, Karys and Rhian.

Woody was predeceased by his wife Doloris (Del); his parents, Jack and Phyllis Woodward; his brother Jack Woodward; and his sister Penny Woodward.

Woody dedicated 42 years of his working life to Cominco/Teck, working in Trail and Riondel (Bluebell Mine), Yellowknife (Con Mine), and Kimberley (Sullivan Mine). His strong work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his career.

Beyond work, Woody’s passion was community and sport. He coached soccer, girls’ softball, and spent over 40 years involved in hockey. He was a big part in Kimberley Minor Hockey as a coach, referee, and President. He founded a beginner hockey program called Woody’s Warriors, teaching boys and girls the fundamentals of hockey while emphasizing fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

His dedication extended provincially through involvement with BCAHA, BC Hockey (Hockey Canada), and serving as President of BCAHA in 2000-2001.

Woody lived in the same home for 54 years; in a neighborhood he loved. He was known for his love of dogs, his friendly greetings, and his genuine enjoyment of meeting new people. He was “that guy” who said hello to everyone. Those who knew him will remember his gentle nature, welcoming smile, and quiet sense of humor. He made people feel comfortable and valued, always offering warmth and kindness.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the women of Home Care and the nursing staff—those who truly made a difference. Your patience, compassion, and care allowed Woody to live with dignity. You shared laughs with him, understood his smart-aleck remarks, and treated him with respect and humanity.

Woody was a wonderful father, grandfather, and role model. His legacy lives on in his family, the countless young athletes he mentored, and the many lives he touched simply by being who he was.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Woody on March 21st from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Kimberley Elks Club.
