Obituary of Scott Mallory
Scott Mallory
Scott was an avid cyclist and passed away doing what he loved. While riding on one of his favourite trails in Cranbrook, BC, he died suddenly and peacefully, found still clipped into his pedals on a beautiful sunny day.
Scott leaves behind his spouse, Irene; his two sons, Kyle (Juliana) and Sam (Julia); and his granddaughter Quinn.
He is predeceased by his parents, Foss and Ann Mallory as well as his brother Michael.
Scott was born in Newmarket, ON and grew up in Sharon, ON. He spent much of his childhood at his grandparents’ farm in East Gwillimbury where he discovered a love for animals, particularly horses. This fondness for horses sent him on a path towards a unique career as a harness maker and saddler. For close to 40 years Scott honed his craft by designing and building English equestrian bridles and reins as well as belts, satchels and various pet accessories.
In 2006, while engaging in a weight loss competition in Cranbrook, BC, Scott stumbled upon a sport that would change his life: triathlon. For the final 19 years of his life, Scott devoted much of his time to the sport as both an athlete and a coach. Scott was one of the founding coaches of the CBY triathlon club in London, ON as well as an inspiration for many racers in the Wasa Tri in Cranbrook, BC. His kind nature and fun-loving attitude proved to be great assets for motivating his athletes, many of whom credit Scott for inspiring them to change the course of their lives.
While Scott’s death was unexpected and came too soon, those who knew him realize that he lived a full and purposeful life packed with adventure. He found the value in creating meaningful connections and was able to share his many interests with friends and family. His infectious laugh and smile will be greatly missed but his memory will live on.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
