Obituary of Tiny SHATOSKY
Tiny SHATOSKY
Tiny passed away peacefully, holding Teri’s hand, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Elk Valley Regional Hospital in Fernie, B.C.
He has been reunited with Phyllis and his son, Todd. Tiny is survived by his daughter, Teri and grandsons, Evan Sauve (Madi), Connor Shatosky (Danica) and his pup, Maggie.
Tiny was born in 1938, in Success, Saskatchewan. He left the family farm at the age of sixteen and moved to Nelson, B.C. where he met Phyllis while working for CP Rail. Tiny and Phyllis were married in Nelson in 1964. They moved to Cranbrook, then Hosmer, and finally Fernie, where they raised their two children, Teri and Todd.
Tiny was an electrician by trade and opened Boundary Electric, in Fernie until 1986, when he established “Gifts N Things” gift shop. He was also elected Mayor of Fernie from 1984 – 1989, then again, in 1996 – 1999. “Gifts N Things” was his pride and joy that brought much happiness to local Fernieites and tourists that went to the shop. Tiny had a great sense of humour and loved meeting new people; he always had time for a visit and a laugh. Not only was Tiny a businessman, he also volunteered much of his time in the community he loved, playing Santa, fundraising for numerous service clubs, creating the Fernie 500 (Wally Kerr), participating in many community events, being the Griz Days Sherrif twice, MCing the Fernie Lions Demolition Derby, and Fernie Minor Hockey and soccer to name a few.
Tiny built a family cabin at Edwards Lake, where many years were spent with his family. In later years, Tiny and Phyllis moved to Galloway where summers were spent with his grandsons, Evan, and Connor, along with Dylan and Blake. Tiny once again attended fundraising events for the Elko, Baynes Lake, and Jaffray communities.
Tiny returned to Fernie in 2019, to the Tom Uphill Manor. He was often seen cruising around town on his scooter, stopping in at local business to visit. When people met Tiny, they often would ask, “Have you lived here all your life?” He would reply, “not yet.”
Rest in peace Tiny, we will miss you!
The Shatosky family would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses at EVRH for their compassionate and respectful care given to Tiny.
Thank you all for your love and support during this most difficult time, it is truly appreciated.
Please join us for a luncheon following the service.
