Obituary of Veronica Anne Patrick
Veronica Anne Patrick
Family was always of essence for Veronica. She played on the family’s co-ed slo-pitch team: Snaggin’ Wagon. She got to play with her dad, siblings, aunts, uncles, great uncle, and nieces. Veronica had a certain stance that looked intimidating when she was up to bat. She would kick back the dirt and grip her bat before getting into her batting stance. If you ever watched A League of Their Own, she stood like Kit Keller. She also liked those high ones.
Veronica loved watching movies. She could recite movies line for line. Smoke signals was one of her favorite movies. She often recited Lucy and Velma’s lines of “I’m thirsty, gimme a beer; hey girl we don’t drink no more, remember?; that’s right, ennit, gimme a coke; here you go Lucy goose, here’s a coke”.
Veronica was a mother hen. She had a hand in raising her nieces and nephews. All of her nieces and nephews carried a special place in Veronica’s heart as she also carried a special place in their heart. You would often see Veronica chauffeuring her nieces and nephews to different sporting events. If she wasn’t being a chauffeur, she was sitting on the sidelines cheering them on. She often teased her nieces and nephews and would raise hell with them on the phone.
Veronica knew she always wanted to be a mother. She was told by medical personnel there was a low probability to have her own children due to physical anatomy. However, on February 10, 2015, the same day as Veronica’s birthday, she gave birth to her daughter Danielle Lee Koso who was her pride and joy. Her and Danielle had a special saying to each other “I love you with all my heart, with all my soul my sweet sweet baby angel”. There was one summer when Veronica, Billy, and Danielle spent the spring and summer months in buckhorn.
Veronica loved doing hair and would fix Danielle’s hair. Her nieces and nephews also experienced Veronica’s hair fixing abilities. When she French braided hair, the tightness pulled your eye lids back and you often felt like you could hear your hair ripping from your skull. There were times she left her daughter, nieces, and nephews in tears when she braided their hair. But, it never stopped them from asking her to fix their hair.
Veronica took pride in learning. There were times she would try to follow her older siblings to the bus stop. One of her older siblings would often have to walk her back home and try not to miss the bus. In 2009, Veronica was the first Ktunaxa ambassador for ‘Aqam. She attended all of the scheduled education activities held by ‘Aqam. With her commitment to attending these events, she was gifted an iPod, when it was bigger than the mp3 player.
Veronica completed grade 11. She then moved to Montana. She enrolled at Kicking Horse Job Corps where she attained her GED and became a certified nursing assistant.
Culture was important to Veronica. While attending Mount Baker Secondary School, Veronica enrolled in the pilot Ktunaxa class offered by the College of the Rockies. Veronica was a self taught beader and sewer. She would often spend time beading with her mom and dad. Veronica assisted her mom in making moccasins for the high school graduates. Veronica was known to many at gatherings for her war hooping. She also took pride in singing. Her voice could be heard echoing throughout the room.
Veronica is now reunited with her mother Deborah Patrick, brother Grant Patrick, nieces Tamryn Gravelle, Dezirea Joseph, grandfathers Henry “Les” Joseph, Poochie Patrick, grandmother Beatrice Bullshields, uncle Sidney Morigeau, aunts Maureen Joseph, Gwenda Joseph, Margaret, and Crystal Dionne. She will also be reunited with the love of her life William Koso III.
Veronica leaves behind her daughter Danielle “Princess Koso”. Her father Vernon Patrick, siblings Big Mac, Kelli (Justin), Katrina (Jose), Kimberly, Doron (Nikki), Kasandra, and Autumn (Trevor), nieces Tarryn, Natasha, Jaylin, Rose, Deborah, Cynthia, Latayah, Rozlyn, RayLee, Natalia, Mariana, Nana, Caliah, Destiny, and her nephews, Dakota, Keidan, Wailand, Treydan, Josiah, Elijah, Kaeden, Thomas, Darius, Colin, Deshawn, Tristin, Nicholas, Aaron, Soren, Tylan, Chase, and Baby G.
