Obituary of Yvonne Marchand
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Yvonne Marchand. With her family by her side, Yvonne passed peacefully on October 1st at the FW Green Home after a courageous battle with dementia.
Yvonne was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Phillip and Violet Marchand. When Yvonne was thirteen, she moved to Canal Flats, B.C., with her parents, siblings, and pets. It was here, in Canal Flats, that Yvonne planted her roots, developed a love for the outdoors, built and embraced an amazing community, and nestled her family.
As a young woman, Yvonne married George Engstrom, and together they began to build a life filled with adventure. They spent many years in Atlin, B.C., where gold mining shaped many of their early family memories. Once settling back in Canal Flats, Yvonne and George were blessed with two daughters, Gayle and Angela, who became the center of their world. Over time, life led Yvonne and George down different paths, yet their family remained strong. Yvonne and George always united together, with their children and grandchildren, for holidays and special occasions; memories we will all cherish forever.
Yvonne’s working years were spent serving others through Canada Post. She began her career in Canal Flats, where she was a proud and dedicated postmaster. She later transferred to Kamloops, B.C. briefly, and then finished her career in Cranbrook, B.C. Yvonne was known for her reliability, strong work ethic, and the warm way she connected with her community.
Yvonne always lived her life with energy and passion. She found peace and joy in the simple things – running in the community forest with her faithful Goldendoodle, Gracie, daily work outs in her home gym, and spending time outdoors. She was an avid gardener and kept an immaculate yard and home. Yvonne loved to travel, dance, attend concerts, spend time having fun with her friends and being active. Her competitive nature and camaraderie was evident when she played baseball with her brothers in Canal Flats. Some of her most cherished memories were made at Findlay Creek, surrounded by family, laughter, and the great outdoors.
Above all, Yvonne’s greatest love was her family. Her daughters and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She treasured every moment she spent with them. She will forever be remembered for her boundless love, her adventurous spirit, and her ability to bring people together with her warmth and laughter.
Yvonne leaves behind her daughter Gayle and son-in-law Devon; her treasured grandchildren Ryker, Layla, and Lilly; her brothers Richard (Shelley), Donald (Cattie), and Albert; and her nieces and nephews Jennifer, Joel, Kellen, Allissa, Jacob, Josh, and Rachel, each of whom she loved dearly. She is now reunited with her daughter Angela, Niece Sheila, her parents Phillip and Violet, and her sisters Marie, Linda, and Donna, who passed before her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Yvonne’s name to Dementia Research or SPCA/Animal Rescue of your choice.
Our heartfelt gratitude go to Dr. Amdstutz & the staff at FW Green Home for your care & support through Yvonne’s journey with you.
