Bob Dylan coming to Cranbrook
Yes, THE Bob Dylan.
One of the most influential artists in human history will be performing at the Cranbrook Rec-Plex on August 12 when he brings his Never Ending Tour to town.
The grizzled road poet/songwriter who fused folk and rock in a way that became a founding base of modern music and social commentary, with his revolutionary and socially biting lyrical content and unmistakable sound, is coming to the East Kootenay following an August 11 concert date in Lethbridge, Dylan announced today, June 18.
Dylan, now 71, was in May presented the US Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, merely the latest major honour bestowed on the artist who has received 12 Grammy Awards, and an Oscar (2000), as well as sold roughly 100 million albums world-wide. He was rightfully installed in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, with five of his songs being named included in the top 500 of all time (Blowin’ in the Wind; The Times They are a-Changin’; Like a Rolling Stone; Subterranean Homesick Blues; and Tangled Up in Blue.)
Dylan’s influence has been so great that it is almost impossible to truly gauge it – from an endless list of musical and literary influences, to philosophical and academic, to world leaders and great orators.
A recent example of his stature, when it comes to music, is seen in the recently released ‘500 Greatest Albums of all Time’ by Rolling Stone. There are three musical acts at the top of the musical pyramid, with each boasting 10 entries in the top 500. They are the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and… Bob Dylan. The next top two artists are Bruce Springsteen (8) and The Who (7).
Dylan has released 70 albums, with 58 singles, in a career that began in 1961. In a decade that resulted in an explosion of awareness and change, with radical new views of life and the world (the 1960s) and an entirely new direction with music, Bob Dylan was considered the guru in the lead. And this dude is coming to Cranbrook!
Cranbrook is one of only three Canadian stops on Dylan’s latest leg of the Never Ending Tour, which also touches down in Lloydminster, Alta. Dylan will also be playing in Missoula, Mont., at Big Sky Brewery on August 14. The Never Ending Tour began in 1988.
The tour begins June 30 in Tonbridge, Kent, England and concludes Sept. 1 at Big Flats, NY.
Tickets for the concert go on sale at 9 a.m. this Friday, June 22, at the Rec-Plex box office. You can also call 250-426 SEAT or for out-of-towners at 1-866-580-SEAT. The Key City Theatre box office will also have a limited number of cash-only tickets available.
Ticket prices range from $58.50 to $68.50, with 3,200 seats available for the show. There is a cap of eight tickets per individual sale for the concert, which is being presented by the City of Cranbrook and Kootenay Concert Connection.
