Centre Ice Art winners announced

The winners have been announced for the Centre Ice Art Contest.

The results came from the on-line poll on the BC Pond Hockey website (www.bcpondhockey.com/center-ice-art-contest.html) . We received almost 500 votes, choosing from a variety of art – visual wall art, two-dimensional and video (digital).

The winners are:

Cathy Parkes – Wall Art: Lake Hockey

Birken Kirk – Video: Snow Skate

The winning submission (wall art) will be used as the official logo for the 2013 BC Eastern Regional Pond Hockey championship in Invermere… a great opportunity for Cathy.

It was a pleasure to work with John Reed from Adventure Architects, paring sport with culture.  John was keen from our first conversation to partner Columbia Valley Arts Council and BC Pond Hockey Series to support this event in our valley, and provide opportunities for our local artists to participate and be part of this Canadian Culture – Pond Hockey!

You can still view these ‘works-of-art’ on BC Pond Hockey website, by choosing the Centre Ice Art Contest link.

Congratulations to Cathy and Birken, thanks for your involvement and interest in participating in this art contest.

And a special thank you to the other artists who participated, the results were very close, each piece deserves equal recognition and acknowledgement. So thank you Scott Bellows, Paula Cravens, Robyn Oliver and Kent Shoemaker.

Such a talented artistic community we have here in the Columbia Valley.

Jami Scheffer, Pynelogs Cultural Centre/Columbia Valley Arts Council
