Couture and Lamb coming to Arts Station

Growing up in Edmonton with a mother who sang in a folk trio and a father who performed First Nations ceremonial music, Christa Couture (pictured) was destined to sing from a very young age.

concertposter_christacoutureHoning her skills by performing in local choirs and musical theatre Couture moved to Vancouver to study at Vancouver Film School. After working in film and television for a decade Couture returned to music; releasing Fell Out Of Oz in 2005 to critical acclaim.

Three EPs and three albums have since followed and Couture’s most recent release, The Living Record in 2012. This bright, beautifully-orchestrated indie folk album possesses sweet, idiosyncratic vocals reminiscent of artists like Regina Spektor and Jane Siberry and a luscious palette of sonic styles – fuzzy guitar, bluegrass-style pickin’, soulful cello, quirky chorus-like vocal arrangements and a touch of cabaret – and not a moment of self-indulgence to be found.  www.christacouture.com

Christina is co-heading a Feb. 20 show with James Lamb at The Art Station in Fernie.

James is a Canadian singer-songwriter-guitarist born into a musical family from Nelson. Known for his fascinating compositions and tasteful, highly regarded musicianship, James can be seen performing in urban centres and tiny rural nooks. He has performed in art spaces, established venues, yoga studios, stranger’s houses, on festival stages and the Via Rail lounge car.

His live presentation can haunt a room with thoughtful joy and his unique voice and commanding stage presence can plunge even the noisiest bar goers into mesmerized silence. Visit www.jameslambmusic.com to read more.

Showtime is 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 20.
