Headliner announced for Wapiti
The 2012 Wapiti Music Festival is happy to announce our Saturday night headlining act: none other than Canada’s favorite indie rockers, the Born Ruffians.
Toronto’s Born Ruffians (pictured above) features Luke LaLonde (vocals/guitar), Mitch DeRosier (bass/vocals), and Steve Hamelin (drums). Formed in 2002, the indie rock trio creates a jaunty mix of shifty guitar riffs and hyper-chic vocals for a Pixies-esque shredded kind of sweetness. Since 2006 they have toured the world extensively with the likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Temper Trap, Girl Talk, Peter Bjorn and John, Hot Chip and Tokyo Police Club. They are in studio recording their third album as we speak! Great timing.
The 2012 Wapiti Friday and Saturday evening lineups are filled and full of pure awesome Canadian Indie entertainment. Friday you will dance into a vibrant pink sunset with Vancouver’s Latin hero’s The Boom Booms. Then rock into the dark starry skies with The British Columbians. Rock beside your neighbor, high five a visitor.
Saturday’s festival-goers will spend the day quaintly foot stomping to the best and freshest Canadian indie. Experience the retro sound of Michael Rault, the clean new sounds of The Belle Game, hear raw rock and roll from Cuff the Duke. The day makes its way to the Born Ruffians. Rock, sing along, clap, dance and feel the festival love. Cap the night off with an all out Fernie dance party, Five Alarm Funk will infect your feet with dancing magic. Much, much more to see!
Focusing on new Canadian indie music, Wapiti is keeping things fresh and cozy tucked down in Annex Park. The 2012 band lineup includes local rockers Stellar Radio Choir, crowd rocking’ The Zolas, the guitar god himself Sean Ashby …plus more! Great for the whole family, Wapiti is about celebrating Canadian music with the humble folk of the Elk Valley.
Wapiti Music Festival takes place in Fernie on August 10 and 11. Ticket sales are capped this year so get yours early.
