Indie Films Fernie kicks off with Beginners

Indie Films Fernie has four feature works it will be showing at The Vogue Theatre in Fernie, starting with a Sept. 12 showing of Beginners.

Beginners (USA), an audience favourite at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, is a moving and oftentimes hilarious portrait of family, love, loss, and self-discovery. It tells the heart-warming story of two major points in the life of Oliver (Ewan McGregor).

One timeline follows the deterioration of Oliver’s father who is dying of cancer and, at the age of seventy-five, has also come out of the closet. The other takes place following his father’s death. The outcome is a thoroughly enjoyable character study about people opening up and discovering themselves despite age, preconceptions and illness.

Tickets are available at the door. Regular admission is $10 adult/$9 youth. Or for Art Station members, $9 adult/$8 youth. Showtime is at 7 p.m.

Three other features in the IFF series are: – Cave of Forgotten Dreams (USA) Monday, October 3; The Guard (Ireland), 7pm Monday, November 7 and Life, Above All (South Africa / Germany) on Monday, December 5, 7 p.m.
