Indie Films Fernie presents No

Indie Films Fernie’s next presentation is the 2013 Oscar nominated (best foreign language film) No, on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Vogue Theatre.

No InsetNo is a 2012 Chilean drama film directed by Pablo Larraín. The film is based on the unpublished play El Plebiscito, written by Antonio Skármeta.

Mexican actor Gael García Bernal plays René Saavedra, an in-demand advertising man working in Chile in the late 1980s. The historical moment the film captures is when advertising tactics came to be widely used in political campaigns.

Military dictator Augusto Pinochet calls for a referendum to decide his permanence in power in 1988, the leaders of the opposition persuade a young daring advertising executive –René– to head their campaign. With limited resources and under the constant scrutiny of the despot’s watchmen, René and his team conceive of a bold plan to win the election and free their country from oppression.

Tickets are available at the door and online (www.iffno.eventbrite.com).
