Indie Films Fernie’s first feature for 2012
Indie Films Fernie’s first feature of the year is The Way, playing Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. at the Vogue Theatre. Tickets are available at the door.
Father and son, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez, team up in this powerful and inspirational story about family, friends, and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. The Way, written and directed by Estevez, was filmed entirely in Spain and France along the actual Camino de Santiago.
The Way (USA) follows the journey of Tom (Martin Sheen), who ventures to Europe to recover the ashes of his son, who died in a freak accident while walking the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route in northwest Spain. Hit by a profound sadness and equipped with his son’s guidebook and backpack, he decides to embark on the 800km spiritual pilgrimage himself in an attempt to honour his son’s memory. Along the way he begrudgingly collects several eccentric travelers who come to form a supportive and surrogate family unit. This likeable and touching road trip movie, directed by Emilio Estevez, is set against the stunning vistas of France and Spain.
