MusicFest a magical lakeside day

By Christine Shaw

This past weekend saw the return of the Invermere MusicFest at Kinsmen Beach Greenspace, nestled alongside the beautiful backdrop of Lake Windermere.

The third year of the waterfront festival included a perfect combination of the warming heat from the sun, and the glorious cool breeze coming off the water, so whatever your weather desire was, you were covered.

The Lake stage was set between the two towering pines by the lake, standing tall and offering abundant shade to the crowd as the music swirled in the air. The venue was abundant with a sweet energy that was ideally matched to the talent on stage.

The smaller Mountain stage was set up the hill in the vendor area, and both stages saw a variety of acts displaying their talents to delight of the crowd. Festival-goers made the small migration between the two stages throughout the day, and both areas were set up with plenty of room for music fans of all ages.

A real treat for this year was homegrown talent Morgan Childs giving a brilliant homecoming performance with his band of friends (lead image) that truly delivered a mystical jazz experience to the crowd.

Rock painting was available for the wee ones, and a wide variety of food and vendors were on site as well, including bratwurst and vegan coconut ice cream.

In addition to the musical offerings on Saturday, Sunday provided a unique opportunity to attend artist workshops featuring drums, guitar, and songwriting. Any aspiring artist would certainly benefit from this intimate exchange of talent and techniques with some of the festival performers.

If you were not able to partake in this year’s event, I would encourage you to add a reminder to your summer festival calendar for next year, as it is definitely worth a look and listen.
