Over 170 take part in Highland Dance Competition

The Kimberley/Cranbrook Highland Dance Association sponsored the 34th annual Highland Dance Competition over the weekend.
Over 170 dancers from southeast B.C. and Alberta participated in the event held at Kimberley’s Selkirk Senior Secondary School.
Dance judges were Leah Sutton from Regina and Jeanette Bonar from Surrey. Pipers for the day were Scot Kortegaard and Lorne Bailey from Kamloops.
Students of Liela Cooper and Hali Duncan School of Highland Dance won 36 Gold, 20 Silver and 29 Bronze for a total of 85 medals as well as 13 trophies for highest scores in their respective age categories.
Liela and Hali’s dancers are from Kimberley, Cranbrook and Canal Flats. They are now preparing for their ‘Spring Fling’ year end show to be held in McKim Auditorium Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m.
