The Group of Three
Alice Bryne, Kathy Stead, and Beulah Limber are The Group of Three, and will be exhibiting their mood evoking landscape paintings at The Arts Station until January 29. After working together for the past ten years they felt that their work had naturally progressed to the point where it was time to show the world what they had been working on. The name, The Group of Three, came out of a brainstorming session and although all three are familiar with, and inspired by, The Group of Seven the work in this show does not directly reference them.
Alice finds inspiration in places she has visited, the view out her window, or whatever catches her eye, she then heightens the colour or changes the view in order to convey a feeling to the viewer. Kathy’s creative process often begins with a photograph, a place she has been or somewhere she would like to visit, then she narrows her perspective to convey to the viewer what it would feel like to be there. Beulah is probably the most abstract of three, her paintings have a magical musical quality, you can almost hear the music playing while spending time with her smooth brushstrokes and warm colours.
For the past decade these ladies have been have been painting together as members of Visual Arts Guild, meeting weekly and painting together has made them great friends and productive artistic collaborators, feeding off each other’s feedback and insights. All three feel they share a similar outlook on making art, for them painting is more than a creative outlet it is a powerful, vulnerable, and often exhausting way of expressing the world the way they see it. Join them to celebrate the first Group of Three show at their opening reception on Thursday December 27 at 7 p.m., refreshments will be served.
