COTR and partners to host Economic Forum

The East Kootenay is full of potential, but today’s businesses, communities, and individuals are navigating increasingly complex economic realities due to global trade tensions, productivity challenges, new technologies, and workforce skill shortages. A new event aims to spark dialogue and action for regional economic resilience.

“Level Up: Economic Resilience in Turbulent Times – A Spotlight on the East Kootenay” will take place on October 1 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at the College’s Cranbrook main campus.

The event is a collaboration between College of the Rockies, Community Futures East Kootenay, and Kootenay Savings Credit Union.

“Business leaders, community builders, and decision makers are encouraged to come together for a focused look at how we can strengthen our regional economy and position the Kootenays for long-term prosperity,” said Michael Crowe, College of the Rockies president and CEO.

The evening will feature a keynote address from Mike Stolte, President of the Centre for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership. Stolte will present new insights into the state of the East Kootenay economy and highlight emerging trends from the region.

A former federal government economist, Mike is the co-creator of the Business Vitality Initiative, the Community Vitality Initiative, the Communities Matrix, and Tourism Vitality Assessment, all tools and processes to assess and strengthen communities.

At Kootenay Savings, we recognize the importance of dialogue and share vision in navigating today’s economic realities,” said Brent Jossy, Manager, Marketing & Brand Experience, Kootenay Savings Credit Union. “We’re proud to partner in this forum and to support a strong, sustainable future for the Kootenay region.”

Following the keynote, a panel of regional leaders will explore next steps for advancing economic development. Panelists include:

  • Mark McLoughlin, President and CEO (or alternate leadership representative), Kootenay Savings Credit Union;
  • Michael Crowe, President and CEO, College of the Rockies;
  • Robyn Peel, Community Economic Development Manager, Community Futures East Kootenay;
  • Michael Hoher, Export Navigator.

“We are looking forward to this event kickstarting new ways of regional collaboration,” said Kerstin Renner, General Manager, Community Futures East Kootenay. “We know East Kootenay entrepreneurs are innovative and resilient, and together we can be stronger.”

The event will conclude with a wine and cheese networking reception from 7 – 8 p.m., offering attendees the chance to connect with speakers, panelists, and fellow community members.
