Fernie holding first Black Friday shopping
The Fernie and District Chamber of Commerce is organizing a celebratory shopping event Nov. 23 – to mark Black Friday.
Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving that is considered the launch to the Christmas shopping season, has become a successful sales and bargain day, with business associations and chambers of commerce taking that ball and running with it the past few years – such as the widely-considered successful event the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce staged last year.
And now Fernie is going to give it a whirl and early interest is an indication that shoppers will be able to find some sweet bargains.
“The idea is to get people shopping locally on Black Friday instead of taking their dollars down to the (United) States. So far we have 29 stores signed up, all offering amazing deals,” stated chamber membership services director Rachel Bone.
The hours of the Friday sale are from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Today, (Monday November 19) is the launch date of the much anticipated Fernie Black Friday website:
