Help for Hospice – Invitation to Rise to the Challenge

Local business owners Christie and Menno Dueck are challenging the business community to help them raise $10,000 for the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society during Palliative Care Week (May 5-11).

“I’ve been a hospice volunteer for almost three years now,” says Christie, “and am extremely proud of the hard working volunteers, board members and of course Jeanne Davidison, our co-ordinator (and volunteer of the year!).

“Through my experiences, I can see first hand how valuable and appreciated the hospice services are. It wasn’t until I became a volunteer that I even understood the depth of difference we can make in someone’s end of life time and for their families.”

Christie and Menno, and their businesses Dueck Enterprises and Fisher Peak RV Rentals, usually conduct their “charitable” ways rather quietly.

This time Christie says, “We wanted to go public and challenge the business community to join us and provide Help for Hospice.”

They have started the challenge with a donation of $500. Monies raised would go toward operating expenses as “business owners know that without having operating costs covered it is virtually impossible to move forward.

“Operating costs is not a pretty buzz word, but without it there would be no Hospice Society.  What a sad day that would be for our loved ones.”

Palliative Care Week kicked off with the Evening to Remember on Sunday May 5, Idlewild Lake Park.

To make your pledge, call Christie Dueck 250-426-5460.
