Wax On walks off with $3,200

Three men with hairy legs plus a good cause plus a large, appreciative Sam Steele Days crowd equaled lots of funds raised June 15 in Cranbrook.

Ken Bridge, Steve Mercandelli and Derek Kortschaga (lead photo) volunteered to have their legs waxed in the Naked Yeti’s Wax On for Friends of Children. In total, they raised $3,200 for the East Kootenay Friends of Children from donations and auction bids to ‘tear a strip’ of one of the three men.

Leading off was popular Cranbrook business owner Ken Bridge, of Bridge Interiors, fresh off a stroll in red high heels, one of dozens of local men who took part in the Walk a Mile Her Shoes feature of the Sam Steele Days Parade (this event raised $16,054 for the Community Connections).

Bridge only flinched a few times as strips of hair were torn from his legs – roots and all.

Next up was Cranbrook Dodge sales manager Steve Mercandelli, with Bridge leading his stripping of fur.

And B-104 radio personality Derek Kortschaga was the final act – fitting as his lower limbs were covered with a thick manly forest – ripe for the ripping and stripping, which occurred with wincing regularity for the daring soul.

Kudos to all three lads and the organizers for helping raise funds for these valuable organizations; it was classic entertainment!
