2012 Move for Health Day – Walk with the Mayor
City of Cranbrook Leisure Services has organized a noon hour ‘Walk with the Mayor’ on Thursday, May 10, beginning at noon at the Senior’s Park at the Cranbrook Rec Plex.

Mayor Wayne Stetski will officially open the walk. After a short group stretch, the walk will get underway by following Rotary Trail out of the Rec Plex, around Kinsmen Park, along Victoria Avenue and return to the Rec Plex.
“I am looking forward to the Walk with the Mayor in support of the 2012 Move for Health Day,” says Mayor Stetski. “It is events like this that really bring our community together in a spirit of fun and inclusivity and it supports healthy active living. “
“The City of Cranbrook has participated in this initiative for the past two years,” says Angie McPherson, Recreation Programmer with the City of Cranbrook Leisure Services. “Previously we have focused on bringing sport awareness to grade school children. This year, we hope to engage a wider range of individuals and encourage healthy living and being active.”
An orientation to using the Senior’s Park equipment will be offered by the Senior Ambassadors in the afternoon. All participants will be provided ActNOW BC pedometers and Pepsi has donated all the beverages to the participants.
Move for Health Day was designated by the World Health Organization in 2002 as a world-wide day of physical activity. The BC Recreation and Park Association (BCRPA), with support from Healthy Families BC, has spearheaded the organization of this year’s Move for Health Day activities and encouraged municipalities across the province to get British Columbians moving. All BC residents who participate in Move for Health Day are being encouraged to log on to www.bcrpa.bc.ca/mfhd to see what types of events are taking place in their area.
