Park on Us fundraiser goes Sept. 16

The United Way of Cranbrook and Kimberley’s ninth annual Park on Us fundraiser will be taking place on Friday, September 16.  The event provides a day of free parking downtown from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., compliments of the City of Cranbrook, local businesses that generously sponsor parking meters and the United Way.  All of the funds raised through the sale of parking meters are invested into community programs, services and projects.

The Park on Us campaign has grown tremendously since the first campaign in 1993 and is successful due to the incredible support received from local businesses every year.  In the first year United Way raised $1,900 and the amount has continued to grow each year. In the 2007 campaign $7,350 was raised. The event now features morning coffee and snack, a BBQ in front of the United Way office and other activities sponsored by United Way supported agencies. Park on Us has become a popular annual event that takes place every year in downtown Cranbrook and it is hoped that it will continue to grow every year. The United Way’s goal for this year is to sell 300 parking meters and to raise $8,000.

Some of the local programs that are supported by this campaign include senior recreational programming, the P.A.R.T.Y program, Big brothers, Big Sisters of Cranbrook, Boys and Girls clubs and the Cranbrook and Kimberley Daybreak programs. These programs rely on the United Way for a good portion of their program funding which is why support for the Park on Us campaign and other aspects of the campaign is so important. With the United Way, all of the money raised here, stays here.  All money raised is invested in our communities. The Park on Us campaign is a great way to show support for the community.

On Sept. 16 be sure to join us for the BBQ between 11a.m. and 2 p.m.  If you would like to participate in the campaign by purchasing a meter please call 250-426-8833 or visit the United Way office on 930 Baker Street to place your order.  The United Way thanks businesses for their continued support and looks forward to new businesses getting involved as well.
