Speaking without pause
The East Kootenay Shelter of the B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BCSPCA) held its annual Paws for a Cause, Sunday, Sept. 11. Scotiabank also works in conjunction with BCSPCA.
The free event attracted a large number of dog owners and lovers, with volunteers arriving from as far away as Edgewater (props to Columbia Valley dog control officer Sam Fiddler).
Additionally, some regional businesses attended the event to support the cause, which aids, as event literature noted, “those who can’t speak for themselves.” Pictured is Top Crops, Garden, Farm and Pet’s Kerstin Renner.
The day’s activities got off to a barking good start with a 1.5 km morning walk, and then branched into a variety of events and exhibits, such as the dog/handler races (pictured), agility, dog first aid and more.
“The BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and shelter for almost 37,000 animals each year through its 41 facilities and operations across B.C. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals,” the BCSPCA website states.
