Strong start at Amy Woodland
Kirsten Johnson (pictured above) is the new StrongStart facilitator at Amy Woodland School. An Early Childhood Educator, she is a graduate of the College of the Rockies ECE program. Johnson, a native of Cranbrook, recently returned to her chosen field after taking time out to raise her three sons, all of whom are now school aged.
StrongStart at Amy Woodland School has relocated to a room just inside the South door, making it more easily accessible by parents and their young ones. The program is intended for three to five year olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Youngsters engage in a variety of learning experiences including gym, art activities, playtime, and on Wednesdays they have a special cooking activity. The program is free and includes healthy snacks.
Cranbrook is fortunate to have StrongStart Centres at both Amy Woodland and Steeples Elementary Schools which offers morning programs each weekday. Beginning Oct. 26 evening StrongStart (with a light dinner) is offered Wednesdays at Steeples StrongStart.
StrongStarts are an initiative of the Provincial Government’s Ministry of Education and are managed by the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy offers this program and one at Steeples school. For more information visit www.cbal.org or call Katherine Hough 250-417-2896
