Snowfall and rain returns to region

Just when you thought it was safe to think spring was here, Old Man Winter opts to have another fling.

With a massive Pacific storm front reaching the Canada/US border area, Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley, stating that rain is becoming mixed with snow. About 10 mm of rain is expected with winds southeast 20 km/h.

Environment Canada notes that tonight, rain mixed with snow changing to snow at times heavy this evening. Snowfall amount 10 to 20 cm. Wind southeast 20 km/h becoming light near midnight. Low minus 2.

Monday: Snow ending in the morning then mainly cloudy. High plus 5.

Light snow is also being forecast for the Kimberley and Invermere areas with today being mainly cloudy with 60% chance of showers. Tonight, mainly cloudy with a 60% chance of rain showers this evening. Snow beginning near midnight. Snowfall amount 5 cm. Snow ending in the morning then mainly cloudy on Monday.

The Cranbrook area is expected to receive 10 to 15 mm of rain today, with wind southeast 20 km/h.

Rain is expected to continue this evening; with 10 to 15 mm forecast. The rain is expected to end near noon on Monday with conditions mainly cloudy.

A light snow is currently falling in higher elevation areas around the city.
