7th Street N fire began in TV
At 2:19 a.m. on Sunday, January 15, Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire in the city, in a rental property located at 2217 7th Street North.
Fifteen firefighters responded, along with one engine and the rapid response vehicle. Crews arrived on scene five minutes after the call arrived to flames showing on the northwest side of the building. Firefighters had the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival. The fire was contained to the room of origin. However, the remainder of the property suffered some smoke damage.
On Sunday afternoon, investigators concluded that the fire was electrical in nature and originated in the television set. Damage is estimated at approximately $60,000.
No one was at home at the time. There were no injuries. The residents did not have insurance, but were able to salvage a few belongings.
Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services remind all residents, including those renting to ensure they have adequate insurance to assist with recovery of lost property and belongings in case of a fire.
